You know those 1:1 meetings you have each week? These are not just for your manager to ask you what's going on, and how you're feeling with the workload. This is also a time for you to give feedback to your manager. Scary, I know. If you're manager doesn't ask the following:

"So how am I doing?"

"What about my management style is working?"

"Do you have any concerns about your teams, the department, the company?"

"What are your thoughts, or ideas about how we might improve our department's culture and/or efficiencies?"

"How can I help you grow in your role?"

Then, you need to be fearless and offer these as part of your conversation. It should create a deeper relationship with your manager, and a more collaborative approach to the 1:1.
